Hey there when I come back to the UK I want to buy either a Celica GT4 (st205) or a pulsar gtir. I was wondering which one will be cheaper to insure. Both are japanese imports, im 29 and have no no claims, no points and no accidents and live in Manchester.

Problem is where I am now the computers wont let me on sites to check quotes, they have some kind of block.

Any ideas how much i'd pay? Are there limited mileage policies for imports?

They will be like for like on cost. Limited mileage policies can apply to imports, yes. I think the GT4 will be cheaper to maintain though as it shares a lot of parts with NA Celica's and the MR2 Turbo.

I have a GTIR and the lad I share my lockup with has a GT4 (st205).

My Insurance for the year was around £650, 23, 2YNCB, mileage limited to 6000, I would expect the celica to be around the same for me insurance wise, not sure what he pays.

Fuel consumption seems to be very similar, around 200 miles to a tank, depends how you drive.

Easier to get parts for the celica I would imagine due to being more common and as stated above it shares parts with other models, although it's not perticularly hard to get GTI-R parts are there are specific breakers for both cars (on the owners clubs etc).

The GTIR is probably the harder car to work on due to the big engine (and associated bits) crammed into the small engine bay.

Alos something to consider is that unless the GTIR has been freshly imported or recently sorted, it will have rust around the arches.

Choose carefully as both cars could have easily been previously owned and thrashed to bits by numpties.

May sound like im bashing a bit on the GTIR but in truth you couldn't pay me to swap my GTIR for a GT4.

It all really boils down to what you prefer, drive both and see.

Hope this helps.

There is UK GT4's, these will more than likely be cheaper to insure than an import

Not many of them left now, only 70 brought into the country IIRC.

Any that are left usually go for a premium, most will have rusted away laugh

The UK Gt4's are too hard to find in st205 form, and when one does come up for sale its significantly expensive than a grey import. Likewise with the sunny gtir.

Can you guys name some brokers or insurance companies to go with?

There are plenty of cars around that are insureable for a driver with your record/history.

Have a look on www.gt4oc.net in the For Sale section.

IMO I'd take the Celica every time, but i may be a little bit biased wink

was guna get a saxo vtr as a daily driver and that was £1300 tpft so take what you wil from that.

dont know about gtir's but there are plenty of good gt4's out there(mostly on the gt4oc) and prices are at rock bottom atmo so can only go up.

When i was 24, i had 5 years no claims and had a 310bhp Celica ST205. With all the mods declared my insurrance was £580. That was 10000 miles a years.

I wish i had never sold my ST205, i did sell it for a 350z but still miss the Celica.

I am looking to get either a GT4 or a bug eye UK WRX Impreza for the Mrs.
The quotes were £650 fully comp for the WRX UK and £380 for an imported GT4!! How does that work??confused

More nicked and crashed WRX UKs around than GT4s would be my guess.
