Hi. A colleague has offered me her 'Y' reg Impreza Estate car for £1000. It's a UK car, with around 105,000 miles on it. She's had it since 79,000m and serviced it yearly. It's an auto (which suits me), doesn't look rusty and has a few dents. I've not had a good look at it, but wondered what the Subaru afficionados on here reckon to it's worth. I'd only be thinking about keeping it as a hack and it's the 4wd system that appeals for occasional 'northern snow' duties.

Your thoughts?

If you're not too bothered about economy or speed and just want a capable and practical wagon with great traction in crappy weather that's not a bad choice.

So long as it's straight and drives well with no knocks and bangs, got decent ticket on it it doesn't matter what the mileage is. N/A boxer engines and gearboxes can do big mileage as long as they are serviced regular. I'd be looking to pay £750-£800 for cash so long as it's got a long MOT.

When my wife became pregnant we sold her 1973 Beetle (she loved it but I'd hate to be a crash test dummy in one) and we bought a 102,000 mile one owner fsh Impreza bugeye saloon. It's a brilliant family car, ferrying baby around town or 600 mile motorway round trips (comfortable at a steady 68ish).

Also we have two top Scooby independants in the area, one walking distance, so knowledgeable good servicing is no problem.

An estate could be even better.

It'll have 12 months MOT on it. I'd figured a little less than a grand was more like it. Thanks for comments.

If its non turbo which i guess it is for a grand that's not bad considering it has full history although it'll be a little on the thirsty side even without the turbosmile

I have one. As has been said they are slow and thirsty but has been (touch wood) very reliable as was great in the snow going places other cars couldn't.
