I noticed this morning that the electronic engine temperature gauge on my 140 G7 can only display from the bottom to half way up and then the max, there is no measurement between normal running temperature and max (the light hit the display in such a way that I could see the possible places that could be lit).

This is a little worrying... If my car starts to overheat I'll only notice when it's dangerously high (?)

Anyone able to put my mind at rest?!

The "dangerously high" part of the temperature gauge will light up before actual dangerous temperatures, I would think. Gives you time to get the engine shut off.

Your pretty much right, there is the "mid-point" where the temp should sit all the time when warmed up, it can then go up 1 notch, and after that it goes to maximum and starts flashing at you.

If it goes up 1 notch, get it checked out, if it starts flashing at you and goes to the max, stop the car and call the AA.
