Yup I need a family car. I'd welcome anyone's experiences with the Lexus RX. I test drove one yesterday and was impressed. It drove far more like a car than a jeep, which came as something of a relief for me (I don't like SUV's).
The big questionmark is the bootspace. It looks limited thanks to all the electric gubbins underneath. So I'd welcome any comments from owners past and present about that. Is it a major issue, or something that can be worked around? I have a toddler and another baby on the way so I need a lot of room for baby paraphernalia.

Not that anyone here seems that interested (!) but I picked up a 25k miles RX400h yesterday and I have to say it's very impressive. Silky smooth, festooned with all manner of gadgets and makes for a very refined and comfortable SUV experience. SUV's are in no way my thing but for a car of this type it's a very pleasant place to pass the time. It can get an indecent wriggle on (credit to Toyota for not focussing solely on efficiency, their hybrid concept has always been about adding performance, not just mpg) when asked but more usefully it's exceptionally relaxing and that's an unrecognized benefit of the hybrid system, the car is so serene in traffic jams and stop start driving that it helps keep the occupants cool too.
It's no great shakes as a drivers car at all but for most of the time on today's UK roads it's a very pleasant place to be.

The rx was by far the most 'car-like' of the suv's we tried. And the boot space is ample too by the way.
The hybrid system works seamlessly making the rx by some amount the quietest and most refined suv. No diesel can compare. But for those who like the agricultural feel of a big diesel suv it might feel too smooth. Certainly the silent running is uncanny. I'm sure the x5 is a sportier drive but I really struggle with the image problem.
