Best oil for an Impreza Turbo
Discussion
Hi guys, picked up my first impreza last friday and absolutely loving it!
Looks wise its totally standard and unmolested which i like, green, small rear spoiler with gold wheels. Engine wise its a 2.OL turbo with a bailey dump valve and a stainless steel exhaust and a turbo timer on there too, but not sure what else its had done to it as not spoken to the previous owner yet.
Anyway oil was a bit low when I picked it up so just topped her up with some semi synth atm, but was wanting to do an oil and filter change soon, so what is the best oil to use on these engines???
Will be mostly normal road driving back and forth, and maybe the odd trackday
!!

!!10w40 or 5w40 should be ok.
I've gone for a slight overkill and put in Fuchs Titan Race Pro S 5w-40 fully synthetic

Ester based is the important bit. Can recommend Opie Oils to get most oil from!
i was advised 5w50 for my impreza by opie oils, half way down the page here:

I dont doubt the 15-50 oils are good but they,re like treacle when cold.
i did use it for awhile but found i could actually feel less poke in the mid and upper range.
even at circa 350 bhp i rarely see oil temps over 105 degrees, well within the safe range of a good 3 ester oil.
although i do know that imprezas vary widely, some run much hotter than others.
i did see much higher temps on the thicker oil even in winter though, too thick for a road car in my opinion.
Probably the best gauge i ever fitted was an oil temp gauge ,it really shows how hard your oil is working!
generally most of the higher price oils will be of a very good quality.
if your car is standard or close to it regular changes of 5-40 or 10-40 grades will be more than adequate,i do find the thinner grades needed topping up a little more often(most of it found in breather and boost pipes lol)
Been using millers for a couple of years now and seems to hold up very well ,i use 5-40grade but if your seeing consistently high oil temps mate i would say this would be too thin.
only really use mine as a sunday car now so i just change the oil when it gets discoloured probably once every 3000 miles or so.
a bit of millers is peanuts compared to an engine rebuild lol
