Hi Guys, I am a long time contract hirer of Subarus and have decided to bite the bullet and buy my current ride 2007 model last of the ''old'' shape due to my P11 D taxation codes credit crunch and all that etc. My question is this the MOT station qouted the need for the brakes and pads to be replaced when it had its first MOT i had a qoute from them (main dealer)and the qoute was a knats cock under £2k any way i figure i can tackle this myself having had a qoute for roughly £500 for parts any specialist tools required? has anyone tackled it who can give me any tips? anyone suggest any good suppliers of aftermarket/specialist part suppliers? i am off too scoobynet now to post the same question.
Thanks Paul.

You can get much better than standard aftermarket Pad and Rotor(disc) upgrades from Subaru specialists all over the UK. Look out for manufacturers like Performance Friction, K-Sport, EBC etc..., for less than £600-£700 a full set back and front. Even AP Racing do a very high quallity pad and rotor set for less than £1500.

£2K quote from a main stealership really is totally unresonable!! Anything the dealership quotes you will be a total ripoff!! Better go to an independent Suabru specialist even if you have a warranty to worry about however, after 3 years i imagine it's now expired.

BTW....I presume the dealership quoted you just for Rotors and Pads, and they're not on about your calipers too because after 3yrs your Bembo calipers should still be like new?

Full set of Godspeed brake discs with enough fluid for a flush - approx £250 inc delivery, then choice of pads. I've got EBC Bluestuff pads, circa £250 for full set.

These have been well tested by me over the last 3 months including my trip to Nurburgring and they seem to be very good, excellent even from cold and haven't faded yet.

Easy enough job to do, no special tools needed. 19mm bolts on front callipers and 17mm on rear iirc.

That price wont be calipers. I checked out the price of Brembo calipers at a stealer a few years back and they were looking at £600 a corner!!!!! So i picked up a full set with discs and pads from a local lad for £450 bucks, well chuffed!!!!!

I would never skimp on discs & pads matey, but the quote from a the dealer is ludicrous. An upgrade will cos a third of that if you go with something like EBC Turbo Grooved discs & red/yellow stuff pads. (yellow for me)

While you're at it, upgrade the hoses to braided and use uprated fluids.

You can get Blueprint pads and discs which are OEM, I've just put done the fronts on my Forester turbo, £166. Dead easy job. Got them from Foresters Subaru Spares, Bilston www.foresterspares.co.uk. Friendly service, lots of choice for makes of pads etc.
