ECU Reset - Impreza MY05 STi
Discussion
Hi,
Is it possible to ensure the ECU on my car is a standard STi map. Will resetting it set it back (if it has indeed been modified). Also, I have a few mods, so will there be any beneifit in doing this anyway. I have seen ECU Explorer, and that has a reset option. Will a cheap cable off ebay do?
Thanks

Hi,
Not sure how to determine the map is standard - perhaps physically look at the ECU for starters to check that is original.
Generally an ECU reset will not wipe the map off the car - just set it back to original settings. This might not be the case if the ECU has been modified however. My car is a WRX PPP (remapped) and resetting the ECU did not remove the map.
An ECU reset can be good as the car will 'relearn' its settings from scratch and take certain modifications into account to a certain extent - air filter, fuel type used, etc. The ECU reset will also clear fault codes stored.
Regarding the cable see my post at the bottom of here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Hope that helps a bit. Perhaps join or just search Scoobynet or similar - they may know more about identifying modified ECU's.

Thanks for the responses.
My mods are de-cat centre pipe (2nd cat removed), de-res centre and an afterburner backbox. Its still got a standard panel filter.
I do want to get a remap, but I need to check with Admiral who insure me about cover (I have read a few threads that suggest that they do not cover remaps).
On the reset front - I just wondered if the car had been remapped prior to me buying it.
