Forester '99 Alarm issue. UK car

Hi, I have a '99 Forester turbo (blue covered key fob) While driving, the door open warning sounded, then the alarm sounded, there was a strong electrical burning smell, the car started cutting out, so I quickly parked up and tried to bale out in case it caught fire! The doors locked themselves when I turned off ign. The car wont respond to key fob, no central locking, and it's immobilised. Key pad is dead too. Door open warning is illuminated with all doors shut and interior light is on. It was icy this morning. These are the facts!

Where do I begin to unravel this one. No fuses are harmed. Obviously a short circuit somewhere. I would be grateful for any help.
