Just wondering if anyone can give any opinions on the following as I'm looking to upgrade. I've got an '03 WRX wagon. Does anyone have these fitted or can advise which is better.

(Standard WRX discs all round)
Ebc red/yellow brakes pads front and rear
Black Diamond pads front and rear
Tarrox pads front and rear
Ideally looking for less brake fade and longer pad life. I'm doing about 10,000 miles a year / normal road use with the occassional PH hoon thrown in.

Ninja 2 rear exhaust silencer (rest of the exhaust system is standard) - I've already got a 3-inch stainless steel rear silencer and really looking for more noise. Or should I just remove the silencer and get the Afterburner straight through instead?

I would really appreciate your help smile

I had EBC redstuff on mr prev WRX and not too impressed.

Got the bluestuff on the STI and really are very good, good from cold too so don't let the "race spec" bit put you off.

Exhaust-wise I would say get the straight through centre section and 2nd decat pipe.

The Ninja 2 is a nice back box. Its not too loud on tick over, but roars when you boot it. A de-resonated centre will sound a tad raspy when cold, but that soon goes. A de-cat centre pipe will make it a bit louder whilst increasing performance a bit.

I now have an afterburer votex BB with the other mods you mention, but its really loud. For me that's fine as its not a daily drive.

The prodrive BB is also a good choice (I have had one of these too).

i had some redstuff on my sti and found them great on the track but shocking when cold, it was like having no brakes.
i would go for green stuff for fast road/track.
i found the stock sti exhaust just right, not too noisey, if its too loud it just gets on your nerves, but thats down to personal taste.

For brakes have a chat with Ian from Godspeed.

He does some Kevlar pads and grooved discs (both of which I have) for £99.

They are better than OEM pads but won't survive many track days.

For more exhaust noise get a staright through centre pipe

Hi Steve

Get a deresonated centre section or, as Paul says, something like an Afterburner Vortex (which he has) or a Hayward and Scott jap style (which I have) will make a big difference.

When I first got my car I took off the standard prodrive backbox and put on an STI Genome. It surprised me that it didn't make the car that much louder, getting the deresonated centre section helped but combining that with a louder backbox made the biggest difference.

I don't think you had the ninja last time I saw you, so you must have been tinkering!!!

Are you heading to the Sunday Service this weekend at MB World, 700 cars going!?

We'll have to go for a drive in the new year with AndyspecD and paulmoonraker if they are up for it too???

Hope you and the family have a good Christmas.

Give James at GRD (Greenwood Racing Developments) a call. He may well have some used STI Gold Brembo complete kits in at the mo...if your alloys will take 'em. Mention me ;-)

Else, I'm on EBC yellowstuffs & turbo grooved discs, braided hoses & uprated fluid (gold brembos). Still makes me smile when I brake !

Cool smile Let me know when...

The de-res centre does cause a spot of cabin drone (I drove a few hundred miles the other day in the scooby and was reminded of this)...
