Hi, looked at a Spec B today, lovely car and think a deposit will be popped on tomorrow, two questions;
1/ No where in the cars docs does it mention Spec B log book says Legacy R and service book just says Legacy. I'm sure it is one any way to tell other than ringing Suburu.
2/ the clutch is biting highish so quess a new one will be on the cards anyone know how much they are to replace.
Cheers

I think a clutch will be about £500 to replace, depending on who does it it could be cheaper or more expensive.1/ No where in the cars docs does it mention Spec B log book says Legacy R and service book just says Legacy. I'm sure it is one any way to tell other than ringing Suburu.

On my legacy the sign of thy clutch going was it being quite stiff rather than having a high biting point.
Was it the black saloon on eBay in the midlands, Phil? I have been to see that one myself...
As for whether or not it is a Spec B, only the Spec B came in a manual transmission variant, all the 3.0R are automatics. Sounds like you looked at a spec B!

No mate I need an estate..must say i like the subtle side of the cars and quite a nice place to sit, not Audi standards but pleasant enough.As for whether or not it is a Spec B, only the Spec B came in a manual transmission variant, all the 3.0R are automatics. Sounds like you looked at a spec B!

I think they are great cars, very underrated. A bit thirsty is the only downside I can find to be honest.
I really need an estate too, hence I didnt buy the one I had a quick look at.
There were a few spec B estates for sale then when it started snowing a few sold quick!
It is a shame that they never officially imported the four cylinder turbo to the Uk, but food for thought is here for you... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Subaru-Legacy-Gt-Spec-B-Auto...

Hmmmmmm
Almost got a Spec B earlier this year to replace our Legacy 2R Tourer but ended up getting a second car instead (Renaultsport Clio200). The main bad point of the Spec B is that it likes to drink and the brakes are disliked by some. There is lots of info on this forum

The logbook for mine says Legacy R so the one you're looking at sounds right.
From memory I can't recall that many differences to the 'non' Spec B models, but it's really easy to spot the bright yellow inverted Bilsteins if you put the steering on full lock and take a peek into the wheel arch.
These really are capable, understated cars... brilliant for lugging the family and all of their junk around, and equally great fun for a blast whilst the Tiv's tucked up in the garage for the winter. I'd also have to say that it's been far better than I thought any road car could be in the recent weather, climbing icy hills that most other people wouldn't even dare to attempt like a rabid mountain goat.
