since having my 94 sti mapped when i start the car every now and then to keep the battery good and leave it idling after a few minutes the engine will hunt the revs rise above and fall bellow the 900rpm? idle this sometimes results in a stall. the engine runs fine when warm can anybody shed some light on this would be most gratefull

Have you thought about asking the mapper?

Check the idle control valve they are known to get a bit grimey and stick mine was doing the same so i took it off, cleaned it with some carb cleaner and its been fine since.

What ecu do you have and who mapped it, pm if you prefer, lots of people who have had simtek ecu fitted are experiencing the same problem to varying degrees, nothing wrong with the car or idle control, just not enough time spent by mapper on cold idle mapping..

Especially difficult if mappers not told about issue

Yep talk to the mapper and ask if they did mapped the cold start function. If they look at you as if you are talking martian then maybe talk to another mapper.
