I'm trying to decide what my next car could/should be and thought i would ask for peoples views.

I dont mind if its 2 or 4 seats, 2wd or 4wd, turbo or n/a.

What do people think is out there for the money/

Thanks for the replies so far guys,

i have had numerous mr2's including 2 mk1's with the 3sgte lump in- not sure i want anymore though.

I have owned a 300zx swb slicktop TT and although i loved it i wont be having another.

A GT-4 is an interesting option though, will have a search

Keep the ideas coming

Toyota Celica GT-4 would be my vote. Looks great, 4 wheel drive, decent turbo engine, not too much power meaning you can work it a bit more often without worrying about losing your licence so much etc.

There's even a bit of rally cred thrown in there!

You could pick up a decent Mk1 GTO/3000GT TT for that money.

Starion?

Basically, look at the Driftworks classifieds forum, all kinds of japanese oddness comes up for sale. 70s corollas with turbo 4AGEs, tweaked S12 Silvias, RWD Bluebirds, rotary Mazda pickups - you name it.

Thats a bit like saying "what flavour ice cream do I want?"

Depends what you want, If you want power:
Mitsubishi GTO or VR4
Impreza WRX
Legacy GTB
MR2 Turbo
Celica GT4
Pulsar GTIR

The list goes on, If you want about 200BHP and like the look Mitsubishi FTO Mivec manual or if the insuurance is an issue a UK 1999 on red top manual Prelude 2.2 or maybe Impreza Turbo. RX8s can be had in that range but expect bills,

That cheap Lancer Evolution II does look like a good punt. It looks well cared for and appears to come with a lot of paperwork, so it's service history is probably pretty strong. When I see Lancer Evolutions on sale with 60,000 miles on it and no mention of service history I think "yeah, has this really been serviced nearly twenty times in it's life?" - it's the kind of highly strung car that needs attention and I would not be able to put my foot down in a neglected one without worrying if something was seconds away from going horribly wrong.

While I think cheap Celica GT-4s are a great choice, that cheap Lancer does look like a pretty safe bet for some fast, cheap Japanese fun.

If you want something by Subaru why not try an SVX I've had one for over a year now and like the fact you very rarely see them around and the owners group/website is good.
