Does anyone know of any documented build threads for a MR2 (MK2) Track Project.

Im in the process of arranging to get a Turbo model back from Spain that will become a track project for me over the summer monthes and would like to read up on potential issues and get some inspiration on what to do...

Thanks.

www.imoc.co.uk for all your answers.

There is also the MR2 Championship which has lots of teams, all of whom have (obviously) track prepped MR2s.

if you want a fast trackday car, get a turbo, but if you want to race, bear in mind the Championship is NA only.

Thanks for the link, ill have a look through there tonight.

I have looked on the MR2 championship site, and through their forum but it seems no one documents the build process of their cars.

There is even a thread on there asking if anyone has detailed it through the build, but all the reasponces say that as the cars are not far off from Standard there isn't much point in doing a build diary...

Some of the build threads in the readers cars section in here are fantastic, in particular a couple of the BMW E36 track car builds. Im hoping to find something like that excpet with an MR2 as the car.

Yes, the MR2 championship is effectively a stock car series - you need to install the safety gear, but very very limited in terms of any modifications.

The upside is that the racing is close and "real" because its a competitive series, not a trackday.

IMOC should have some good builds, alternatively if you ask im sure you will be pointed in the right direction. Most UK MR2 drivers seem to build street cars or drag cars, though.

Do you just want tips on making a trackday weapon out of an MR2 turbo? Or do you want something street friendly too? If its a pure track car with all the slack taken out of the suspension (if in doubt, rose joint it...) I'm sure you could build a serious car. You can then sacrifice the boot for ideal cooling, fit track spec coilovers and brakes etc.

No need for it to be road legal. In the shorterm Im really just look to strip it out as much as possible throw in a roll cage, couple of bucket seat and head for the track.

In the longer term, I'll be looking to upgrade brakes / suspension / engine but everything will be done on a budget.

Realistically Im a good couple of months from bringing the car back from Spain, so in the meantime Im hoping to read up on whats involved and if possible starting buying parts while Im waiting for the car to arrive.
