Engine hesitation Impreza WRX

I've recently noticed that under hard acceleration through the gears (not from a standstill) my 03 WRX seems to hesitate slightly at around 3000rpm. Over 3K it keeps pulling ok - my cambelt is a little overdue to be changed. Does anyone know what this might be?

You say the cambelt is over due- What else is?! (wont be the belt but could be other service items!)

Look at spark plugs and coil packs as a first port of call. A coil pack could be on its way out.

Has the car been re mapped- could just need a tweak in the map and all will be ok.
