Stupid question and possibly been asked before, but the search didn't show anything obvious. Do they(1996-2001 stageas) need it in standard tune, or is it just a good idea(for what is a moderately tuned turbo engine as standard). I wouldn't begrudge it the extra cost, but it's not widely available out in the sticks.

I imagine the turbo ones will run much better on the good stuff, NA Stageas it shouldn't be an issue though.

More often than not you're generally going to get better performance on a jap turbocharged machine, from mid 90's onwards, when running a decent super unleaded like Tesco Momemtum(99RON) or Shell V-Power(99RON). You should see smoother running and gain some extra power over normal 95RON.

The knock sensors on these vehicles listen for detonation. 99RON petrol has much better det protection built in than 95RON, so as a result your ECU should run a bit more timing which in turn should give you some more power and torque.

You can run a Stagea on std unleaded as long as you drive carefully and keep away from full boost

In other words use 99 octane all the time

if ya run on normal unleaded the knock sensor will retard the ignition resulting in reduced power, the ecu will need a reset to get the power back later (remove bat lead for a few mins to reset)
