Discussion
Enda Ward is based in Brum, I've had 3 of my cars remapped by him and am very happy with the results:

Hi,
Just goes to show there's still quite a bit of misinformation when it comes to re-mapping a petrol engined car!
The are noticeable benefits to re-mapping a petrol car, these take the form of removing flat and dead spots in the rev range and smooth the torque delivery of the engine. You can also opt for a perhaps a rev limit increase and bias to an element of fuel economy. A side benefit is that although there's talk of a '10%' gain in power, in practical reality, you'd probably achieve perhaps 7-10 bhp on the engine you mention. This varies due to the condition of the engine itself.
In driving, you'll notice that smoother power delivery and perhaps the modest increase in torque as well. Over some time, if you do real world MPG calculations with the fillup/note miles and fuel amount added/compare to next fillup method, you should notice an improvement in MPG if you try to keep your normal driving pattern and habits.
Much more noticeable gains and performance increases with/or MPG improvements are with Diesel cars. However, many petrol's have been done and you only need to read up feedback from owners who done it to similar engines to know it is worthwhile doing if you so wish to get those benefits.
Cheers, Dennis!

Yes, a very good bit of informative info there.Just to add, there are two types of remapping, one just puts in a 'chip' in that covers your model and another is a custom remap of your car. Also there are some crap chips out there that may give you +20% total BHP, but at the cost of mid range power which is where it is best. "Area under the curve" is the term used and is what you need to compare power increases.

I'd give Simon at e-maps a call, did mine a good while back now and no problems what so ever http://www.e-maps.co.uk/
I remapped my E46 323ci on Saturday, albeit in Auto Tune (Northern Ireland) It achieved 193.6 BHP and 188.8 lbft on the second dyno run which I am pleased with. The difference really is like night and day on the road, the whole nature of the engine has changed and the "wheeziness" is gone.
Another thread on the M Power section of PH has reminded me of a much respected BMW tuner , Sal at Evolve in Luton. http://evolveautomotive.com/home.php Have a look at the comments in this thread.

Another vote for Simon here. Did mine 70,000 miles ago, with no problems. Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
