BMW 325 ti (compact) buying guide?

All,
I've found a relatively low miles (<50k) 325ti 2001MY compact, but I want to go into the deal with open eyes, therefore have some basic questions! I've tried searching the web but oddly enough google is not helping (probably using the wrong search terms!)
What's the recommended service interval for the 325 engine? 15k / 2years?
Cam belt or chain? If belt - when does it need doing?
Do these cars wear well? The one I've looked at has more interior wear than expected (leather is worn and passenger side bolster near seat release is pulling away ).
The engine looks brand new (looks like bonnet has never been opened), but other wear makes me worried that car has had a haircut. I'll be checking the miles against previous MOTs on the spiffy DVLA website.
