Hi,

I've just bought my first BMW (if you exclude the better half's MINI) and am struggling with the removable towbar.

I don't think I am doing anything stupid but when I put the key in (which turns fine) I can't turn the plastic wheel to show the red marking to remove it.

Apart from soaking it all with WD40, any suggestions?

Thanks

Danny

Try pulling the wheel outwards against the spring before you turn it.
That's how the one on my Audi works

I reckon Sparky is right, if yours is the Westfalia, which is the one BMW fit. If so, & based on mine, you need the red key in, & turned, then pull the cogged wheel out & turn clockwise. I would go & try mine to confirm, but it's parked 4rse in, & there's no lighting out there; I'll happily check tomorrow evening, if that helps.

My instinct is WD40 won't hurt it but, like other things in life, it's to do with technique as much as lubrication... whistle

Cheers guys - I had to pull the handle out before it would turn enough to get the red mark showing, then some gentle encouragement from the universal persuader and it's removed!
