Handling vs tyre brand - I suddenly have a tug boat!
Discussion
Hi All
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this,
I have a 118d which handles really nicely, or did....until I switched from Bridgestone RFT's to Goodyear NCT RFT's. These are 205/45/17's and its a nightmare.
The car doesnt feel stable at speed, has electric turn it but then bugger all grip! It slides more and feels almost like they are under inflated (which they arent)
These were fitted by quikfit (its a lease car) so dont know if I have any options. I even asked the dealer to look at the dampers etc but couldnt find any faults.
Anyone else have this issue?

New tyres will feel slippery on the push.
I had some new tyres fitted in winter and on the wet it felt like ice driving.
They have to put some type of compound on the tyre to get it in and out of the mould when manufacturing the tyre. This normally wears off after a few hundred miles.
I reckon it is that.

If you've racked up the miles stated in a short period - 2-3 weeks, then go back to Quikfit and have a chat.
Let them know you've given time and distance for the mould release agent to wear off, but still don't feel right.
I personally wouldnt bother with run-flats, but if the typically very stiff sidewalled Bridgestones felt spot on, and did inspire confidence, then stick with that.
