Z4 Xenon Headlamp query

My parents have just bought a 57 reg Z4 with Xenon Headlights.

They are wondering whether the inner lamps are supposed to work or not.

What it has is the Xenons on the outers and the circular ring lights on the inners with what appears to be another lamp on the inside of the ring. We do not know whether this is supposed to light up or whether it is just the outers and the ring (Angel Eyes as I am told they are called).

All that currently light up are the outers and the ring light.

Anyone know?

Nope, they don't - like you say, it is just the "angel eye" ring as the main (xenon) lamp does both low and high beam (hence why they are "bi-xenon" as opposed to just "xenon").

I believe on cars without xenons, this is where the high beam bulb would be.

Thanks, that is what we thought. I saw one the other day that had the normal bulbs on the inners.

Do Bixenon's not use a 'normal' bulb, eg H7, for the main beam flash function?

Apparently not, only the Xenons flash on the Z4.

On my Focus ST, the normal Halogens only come on, on main beam, also found out tonight that the bi-xenons on that also brighten. So on the ST you have a normal halogen to compliment them.

The Z4 only brightens the outer Xenons.

From what I have heard/read the brightness is constant, when you flash or switch to main beam a "shield" is lifted thus turning dipped into main beam or a flash.

That is what my Father said happens. A shield lifts and gives the full beam.
