My 535d is due an oil service, dealers have quouted me 235 quid (no pound sign on this keyboard!) I think this is completely over the top as I'm guessing oil is maybe 60 pounds and filter about 15?
The car is under BMW used car warranty, can I get an independant to do it? using the proper BMW filter and oil.
Also how would I get the idrive service thing reset afterwards? theres also the service book to stamp!
Thanks.

I usually buy 2 bottles of oil which is £90, but only use botle and a half. Filter is about £14.00 and time is about half hour. So yes, £235 is taking the piss. Shop around dealers. You can reset the service light through the cluster, the stamp is more tricky if its under AUC Waranty.

AUC Warranty will be void I think.

Since it is an additional warranty, underwritten by a third party, they can put whatever conditions they want on it - and one of them is having the services done at a BMW dealership.

^^ Voiding of your warranty will be the result, even with a stamp in the book the 'key read' will show a missing service as will be BMW database.

Shop around at different dealer as suggested above.

A huge chunk of the price will be oil - will BMW dealers let you supply your own? Seems to be almost standard practice with Mercedes.

How many miles has the car done since the last oil service?

Got mine done (335d so similar) as part of four other services - £460 in total and the oil part was way less than £200.

Cheers guys, local dealer quoted me £205 but after I told them I had been quoted £170 elsewhere they said they would do it for that too, result!
The service schedule said it takes 8.5 Litres, is that right? I know nothing about engines but assumed they all took about 5 litres.

8.5L is correct.

That sounds like a third oil service price, are you sure it does not include airfilter and fuel filter?

I just had an oil service at 65K on my 535d.

8.46 litres of oil at a standard price of £17.50 a litre.

I'm lucky that I know my dealership and receive a 10% discount and the oil was charged at £10.50 PL.

£163 all in, so £170 is a cracking price.
