Hi all

I have contemplating getting this beast and was wondering from experience what sort of MPG I can expect around town taking it nice and easy, both auto and manual varients.

Cheers

Around town 18-24mpg depending on your driving style, typical route, whether its from cold and the traffic.

On a Motorway run anywhere from 30 to 40mpg depending on your respect for the speed limit.

These economy figures are identical for the 530i, therefore don't waste your time with the 525i.

Buy on condition and history in preferance to 525i vs 530i (you'll find often 525i's are bought by the more sensible 'proper' owner wink ) I would say to avoid 2.2 as they are too rev happy and lack torque.

I have a long term average of just over 30mpg out of my '25i auto, although it does very little town work

+1

530i is a much better car for similar outlay and running costs.

Cheers for the replies peeps, my now second question is, what to look out for on the 3 litre lump?

The 4.0 for example the cooling system is it's weakest link, what's the achillies heel of the 3.0.

Ive a 2001 Topaz blue manual with all extras.
I used it Portsmouth to Yorkshire every weekend sat at 85 and I was getting 35mpg.
The cooling system is a weak link, mine was all done when I bought it.

Shameless plug as I have just bought an M3smile

Your advert shows a 2001 Topaz Blue manual with very few extras? PDC etc etc was all standard. Absolutely gorgeous colour combo though. Lovely.

Strange most I have seen were not even leather, and are at dealers for a fair bit more money and milesage.
The colour and interior caught my eye when i bought it last year. I read somewhere that this model was rare with M suspension and them wheels but I dont know to be honest.
I did 10000 miles in it in 5 months.smile

Extra Cost Items

Metallic Paint
Full Leather
Sport pack (Sports Seats, Sport S/Wheel, Sports Suspension & 17" Alloys)
CD Changer

It is a decent Spec (especially for a manual, as SE manuals are normally a bit poverty spec. ie Cloth trim, std seats, 16" wheels)

Thanks for that.
I wondered about the seats/ leather/ wheels and suspension as Ive not seen another like this. When I bought it I was actually after a 528, but paid a bit extra to get this.
