I've had my 57 reg 535d for a week now and feel the need for a quality remap....

Now,I've remapped my previous car, a 730d sport by Simon at emaps and thought it was brilliant

The only thing holding me back is the fact that the car is under the BMW extended warranty, which I am led to believe will be void if a remap is found

I'm looking for anyone's experience in this regard....do dealers check for remaps? Do they really void the warranty if discovered?has anyone used the warranty on a remapped car without issue?

I really do want to remap it,but the car is very high spec, lowishmiles and has a BMW warranty which make it a very easy car to sell when I decide to move on.....the warranty is a strong selling point that sold the car tome without any hesitation, soi am loathe to lose it.....not to mention the benefits
of having it if anything goes wrong

Please share your thoughts and experiences with me!

Ps would an evolve switch Be the solution ie put ut back to standard map every time it needed to go into the dealer?

Might be a stupid suggestion but maybe BMW can tell you what is acceptable, and who is approved?

Best to talk to Evolve regarding details and Ts & Cs but my understanding is that their warranty will take care of any issues not covered by BMW's.

Now aware of any remap being 'approved' by BMW

As for the remappers warranty, this would only cover damage caused by the remap presumably....once the warranty is voided, I doubt I could take the car back to Evolve and ask them to fix, for example, an Idrive problem.....

I'm sure Evolve would clarify what's covered and what's not for you. I would assume their warranty covers engine, ECU and other related drivetain parts but I don't know the details. It clearly isn't Evolve's concern if a car's boot hinges, interior lights or sunroof pack up post remap.

My understanding is that some main dealers are more sympathetic regarding remaps that others. A good one is likely to take care of non drivetrain items under warranty even if the car has been mapped however imho its unrealistic to expect BMW to honour the warranty on a 535d/335d gearbox if a remap has been putting a couple of hundred NMs of additional torque through it. Having said that I've not seen any stories of *35d boxes packing up anyway.

Go for the map turboman786 ~ 535d torque after fettling yikes

Hi,

Another alternative that's seldom mentioned is to approach the very high level BMW tuners and go for one of their packages. Bird's Garage in Iver who are the official UK importers/distributors of Hartge & Dinan. Perhaps have a talk with Sytner who are I believe the official UK people for Alpina. If it turns out that these all don't cover to what's considered a full BMW warranty, then have a look to see if BMW's own Performance line offers anything?

I'm almost certain the independant type tuners, like Evolve won't offer coverage equal to the BMW warranty at all. Also, as far as I'm aware, all ECU changes/re-maps etc are detectable but as mentioned, some places are probably more lenient than others when your car is plugged into the diagnostics machine etc.

Some more research needed for sure!
Cheers, Dennis!

In the same boat but I've got another two years worth of warranty which I don't want mess up for obvious reasons. Equally, I've never heard of any gearboxes/drivetrain exploding because of a remapped motor. Confused of London.

It's much easier than most think for dealers to trace a remap...as soon as the car is road tested the technician can tell instantly if a 35d has been remapped - its a completely different car!

Isn't that the truth!

If you go to Birds for a Hartge remap or their own in-house remap I believe they will cover any failure attributable to the remap for a year.

The Hartge remap is expensive (circa £1500 iirc) but does have TUV approval, neither map exceeds the torque limits of the gearbox.

Why not buy the car with the performance you want in the first place? smile

Seriously, the other thing, if the dealer updates your software as part of the servicing you may well lose the map.

I was chatting with my local dealer and he told me they can tell as soon as they plug in their diagnostics and that it would void the whole bmw warranty.
