e46 rear number plate fitting

just removed the original plates on my new motor that were stuck on, to put on my personal plates which were screwed in on my old e46 330 to find that the new m3 hasnt any nuts there. it looks like (hope) a hex type nut is required for the screws to screw into.

if this is the case can someone confirm these nuts can be bought from bmw or elsewhere?
