With 119 CO2. No doubt company car drivers of the world rejoice.

Interesting to see all the cars are going to get the Drive Dynamic Control as standard. BMW must have taken heed of all the road test reports that advised against buying a car without it.

Impressive figures. Looks like its using a more powerful engine than the 320d ED as its listed at 180bhp.

Really hope they can put this into the 1-series sometime and get that down to sub 100g/ km co2 levels.

Agreed, nearly every review seems to have mentioned that. Looks like its going to come with a price rise though.

Typical. Before I ordered my 520d m sport in May, I specifically asked my dealer whether BMW would be making an ED 5 series. He said no! Feeling well miffed now. Is it too late to change my order? Am due to collect next week.

You are the victim of one of two scenarios :-

(a) the salesman hasnt been told its going to happen, so that he is selling cars that are available, rather than cars that are in the pipeline.

(b) the salesman made a conscious decision to sell you the car he could get ordered there and then, so he could get a sale.

I suspect (a)

Yes, its too late to change.

Thanks daemon but I find it hard to believe that my dealer didnt know in advance what's happening in the next quarter with upgrades/new models. The two cars i was weighing up were the e90 320d ED and the f10 520d
M sport, but then 6 weeks after ordering this 520d ED appears! I was in no rush and would have happily waited until september for the ED. He ended up taxing my car on the 30th June just to hit his target.

They have also announced a sub-120g/ km co2 X1 sDrive 20d ED, not sure if that has been mentioned on here yet. Really class leading stuff.

Sounds like the 520d ED would be perfect for your requirements, maybe you should just cancel the order for the M Sport and take the hit on loosing your deposit?

I read thro my contract and seems I would likely lose my £1000 deposit if I refused to accept. I am seeing him on Tuesday to thrash it out. Feel a bit aggrieved, it seems a bit too coincidental, he phoned me over ten times on the 30th June to organise the documentation and tax etc. Yet the next day these new upgrades are released.

If he said "no" then he mis-sold you the car. At best he should have said said that he didn't know.

Unless you're running it as a company car, does the ED bit matter in practice? The gearing changes might even make it worse to drive.

there must be a way to argue that just a few weeks before release they knew about the upgrades, and therefore were probably holding information from you? if it's £1000 you'd lose, and if you plan on keeping the car for several years, i'd (if there is no way you can get it back) bite the bullet and lose your £1000. every time you drive your new car, you'll be peeved that it's not the one you really wanted.

Nearly bought one of these a few weeks back. Would have been pretty pissed off that they are rolling out these revisions already. Where does that leave residuals on the "old" models now?

All the same, will be very interested to see the leasing rates on the new 520 ED. Could be a VERY cheap company hack.

I'd be surprised if it made any difference whatsoever! Most people won't be aware of the changes, manufacturers tweak and adjust the spec on a yearly basis.

I doubt the salesman didn't know about the 520ed!! I got an email from the local BMW corporate sales guy a few weeks ago saying it was available for September deliveries....

Thanks for the input guys. Pbarlow - do you still have a copy of that ED email? I plan on visiting another dealer tomorrow to ask them when they knew about the ED model and then confronting my dealer with the info. My dealer must have known. Yes I am buying the f10 as a company car so it not only equates to a BIK saving of 5% (1K tax savings per year), also has a 4k lower list price. I do about 25k miles per year and have a CSL as a weekend car so don't mind too
much about the ride. Yes there may not be any difference in the mpg/residuals/ride etc but from the tax point of view there is and it's the principle of it - he knew exactly my circumstances and I specifically asked him about the possibility of the F10 ED model only a few weeks ago. I am not too fussed about losing my deposit but am more peeved with his attitude.

I work for a dealer and we were only officially told on 7th June, there were whispers beforehand but nothing concrete. We were also sworn to secrecy until the official press release. That said I have customers looking at 5 series at the mo and have just suggested they wait a couple of weeks before making a final decision! Sounds like he was trying to hit targets!

If you want any more details feel free to drop me a PM.

Also don't forget the BIK saving will only be this big for the rest of this tax year, new rates starting in 2012/2013 so BIK on the ED will be 18% and the 520d M Sport 19%...

Will dig out the email - if i remember correctly it came to our Group
Procurement head who forwarded it to me as I'm due to replace company car in October and have been looking at the 5 as the most likely replacement. I'm probably edging towards the estate now anyway, and as someone else said, the BIK rates change 6th April 2012 to make it almost not worth bothering.

Our procurement guy was changing his car and had ordered the 318d because of the 13% rate; when I told him of the changes he decided to bugger it and get the 320d instead :-) forewarned is forearmed.....

That's a good point. The ED will be 17% in 2012/13 though. Then 18% 2013/14.
