I know originally these roofs caused a lot of stress for owners as they often failed and landed said owner with a £1500 bill.

Is that still the case with say a 2008 car and do I need to avoid like the plague?

I rate it as a must have option

Have you had it in your car and for how long?

I've had it only a few months but a friend has had X5's with it for many years and no problems at all. Guess the key is to make sure it gets a bit of use and also suspect that the key parts would be covered by warranty which really is a must have for these as well

seems great on mine. although it did get stuck shut when the car was dirty, had a lot of sap or something on it and it took a while to kind of break the sticking seal. it kept thinking it was jammed and shutting again, but overall... i like it!

I have it on my car which I have owned from new since Nov 2007....must have and never had a problem (fingers crossed). The other asbolute must have are the Comfort Seats which are the first box I would tick....you use and appreciate them every second you drive the car and they are much better than the standard or sports seats. Why more people don't spec them is beyond me.

Well I didn't find too many with 3rd row seating and panoramic roof so have signed the deal on an M Sport 3.0sd with the extra seats. It does have the comfort seats and dvd in rear so that will have to do.

Anyone know the cost of a years warranty? It will need one next March as it will then be 3.

IIRC correctly it's £700 or £800 there are lots of options depending on excess and cover.

Good to know there aren't many with panoramic roof and third row seating.....hopefully that means mine will be worth loads when I trade it in! I went a bit mad when I specced mine but I intend to run it for probably five or six years so I had everything I thought would be "useful"....about £15k's worth.

I think you will be safe with that combo of 3rd seats and panoramic roof for a quick sale but don't expect any more money for it. When buying 2nd hand we saw no discernible difference in prices just some high specced ones sell quicker
