Hi

I have one of the above, and I do around 30,000 miles per year in it

I have worked out over the last few fill ups that I am getting 31.46 MPG average calculated on average of 6 brim to brim fill ups

Is this about right? I mainly drive on motor-ways approx. 20,000 of the 30,000 total.

Would a remap help?

I had an older E39 Tourer 530D Auto and that did around 550 miles per tank, so I am a little disappointed with the economy of its younger brother.

Thanks

The pre facelift (Sept 07) cars liked to drink.
I got 25.9 on my 535d over 12 months and 25k miles.
That was doing loads of motorway miles.

The facelift cars with the newer gearbox tend to get around 25% more mpg wise.

Check your coolant temperatures in the hidden computer, as the mpg certainly sounds low.

Coolant temp if it's lower than 90 or it's fluctuating below 90 then you'll have a faulty stat which makes the car think it's running cool thus using more fuel

EGR stat is the easiest and cheapest to change so worth trying that 1st

I don't think it sounds far out at all.

The official figures for that car are...

Fuel Consumption Imperial (miles per gallon)

Urban............25.40 MPG

Combined.....35.30 MPG

Extra-Urban..44.10 MPG

Well forget extra urban as that is sitting at 39mph with a car up to temp for 7 miles, with no slope, traffic, and at 70ºf ambient temperature.

So you will be looking at around 25 round town and 35mpg on a run, so somewhere between the two for most people. You may get more if you sit at 70mph for 99% of journeys and do not see any traffic.

Thermostats are know for going though and this could be eating a few mpg so worth checking engine temp.

Your E39 figures were..

Fuel Consumption Imperial (miles per gallon)
Urban 29.40 MPG
Extra-Urban 47.90 MPG
Combined 38.70 MPG

So around 20% better.

What did you get in that?
