1 Series, Anything to look out for?
Discussion
Overall good cars.
Check the tyres, some of the RunFlats can wear unevenly. At first glance they can look like there is loads of tread on the outer edges, but can be very low on other areas.
RunFlats are quite expensive, if the car does not have them, maybe the previous owner scrimped on the maintenance?
There is one scary bit, on earlier cars pre 2007 i think, if you see the DSC/Brake warning light in the dash it can mean the DSC ECU is kapoot, and is very expensive to replace. Not as common as the internet makes out (says the man writing on the internet, whose wifes car suffered this exact fault).
You can check the cars service requirements via the wheel, and button on the indicator stalk.
ETA: Just re-read the OP and saw 59 plate, hence making my pre 2007 DSC advise less useful.

Don't buy a 116i, would be my advice. It's a detuned 2.0 lump, so thirsty and slow at the same time. And it will depreciate like a second hand turd.
Would it set you back a lot more to get a 118d?
The 1 series is a cracking little car: excellent chassis, lots of fun to fling around. But I honestly think the 116i is the runt of the litter.

Could be, although I got rid of my Pirelli Euforias because of the the appalling lack of grip and poor ride.RunFlats are quite expensive, if the car does not have them, maybe the previous owner scrimped on the maintenance?

Lots of interior trim broke on mine in the 1st year so make sure it all works. Paint flaked too.
Only other thing I wished I'd done was to see what else I could have bought for the same money.
I think there's now a repair kit for the failing DSC modules, so the fix is now sub £500 rather than 4 figures.
59 plate may not have come with runflats from the factory anyway as they were a (cost?) option on most models from ~2009 onwards, but regardless a car without them is more likely to identify a previous owner with brains/high self preservation/a bad back than a scrimper, as most seem to change for the dynamic benefits rather than the financial ones.
