Well basically some complete tard' went to a baseball game, had comfort access on his 3 Series. Anyway he put it in park, got out locked the doors and walked away to the game for 3 hours. Came back and wondered why his car was on. Seriously how do you miss the fact that your car is still on.

My concern is that another mistake by me, or someone else, could result in a car running indefinitely in a closed garage with disastrous consequences.

I am looking at the possibility of disabling the CA option. It is too minor a convenience considering the potential risks.

I'd suggest to him that to minimise further potential risks to himself and others, that he should sell the car to someone with a double figure IQ.....then hand his driving license in to the local police station

from the thread=

Lazy, stupid, irresponsible... whatever. st happens, we all forget. I forgot to water the plants. They died.

I ordered CA for the alarm and other things. The keyless crap seems accident prone. Accident. You know, something you didn't intend to do?

I don't have CA.. yet. But I would think it could prompt you somehow like the seatbelt warning. Or on BMW Assist.

"Hey You! where are you? Should I keep the car on? Dude, where is that FOB? Where are you? You SOB!"
"Dude, should I keep it on? OH. Your not responding... accident? Need help? Should I turn it off? Should I turn it off? Should I call SOS? Bueller.. Bueller. Where's the ball?"

"Ok, I won't turn it off yet and chirp intensely for awhile. Maybe flash my lights."

"Oh. your back. Hal is that you? Ok no, your not Hal. I'm shutting down."

Problem solved. No dead family. No lawsuit, no damaged engine.

later...

"Hey! Your back! I shutdown while you were gone. Why the fk did you order this option?"

"Cause I wanted an alarm? And it sounded cool?"

"WTF? Am I talking to my car? Hey! Who is in charge here? I remember when I could just stick it you ya and twist your arm. Stomp my left foot and slam you into forward and reverse at will!"

"Thank you for the command, please clarify. do you mean my left or your left?"
"Please speak". "Please Speak".

CA. Crazy Auto-mation. "Disable CA!"

"Unknown command". "Please Speak"

I like how he goes on about how if he left his car in a garage while on he might die from carbon monoxide. If only we had some sort of special device to convert these nasty gasses into something harmless, perhaps from 1993 onwards?

Apparently he presses the button twice, first to shut down the engine and second to turn off the electronics. The idiot didn't seem to notice his foot was on the Brake which is kind of what you do to start it.

If my dad ever did that (which would result in the key being still in the ignition) He would be sending off the V5C saying I had taken ownership of the car. hehe

But surely he noticed it was making noise. Or surely he heard this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVP1fZRMmfM

On a side note I like that sound biggrin

Not sure if I was fed bull by him or not, but I was talking to a guy on a drive the other day who had a turbo timer fitted to his Impreza.

Parked up in a multi-storey, turned off the ignition, removed the keys and locked the car as normal, engine still running, supposedly via the turbo timer.

Went to see a movie, got back to the multi-storey and his Impreza was still sat there idling happily to itself.

He apparently got rid of the turbo timer the next day.

I have heard of Turbo Timers failing like that before...I always used to sit and let mine idle for a few mins "manually" before switching off

Left a Peugeot 307 at dealers to look at an engine management light that kept appearing and they could not replicate ... left engine running to keep light on as requested and they gave me a loan car to continue my day.

Returned at 5pm ish and found the car still idiling away in the car park ... no one touched it for 9 hours.
