I don't have a 135i but my 335i, with same engine, has been remapped. I've read several posts discussing limp mode issues and high temperatures but I'm not seeing any difference in oil temperature since the remap. Having said that I am planning to add an uprated intercooler, for piece of mind and a little extra shove
, in a few weeks time. The main pro is an extra 150 lb/ft of torque over an E46 M3
. The main con is likely to be slightly increased fuel consumption because it is very hard not to play with the extra power every time you get in the car.

I had a JB3 ECU piggy back box on my car (135i manual twin turbo). You could pick your map before starting the car with presses of the go pedal. It returned around 340bhp - 380bhp depending on the map you chose (differing boost pressures) and it was absolutely mental (in a good way) without any additional cooling. I embarrassed a lot of far posher machinery with it and the kick in the back was addictive.
The best thing about it, though, was you could set the car to pass-through mode where it ran the standard map, so you could keep turbo-nutter-b
d-mode for special hooning occasions and run the car without the additional stresses for the majority of the time. This is not something you will get with a traditional remap.
The power delivery was smooth, refined and well balanced regardless of the map. The JB3 has had a lot of development, it dynamically learns your driving style and copes with fuel mixture and RON changes. It can easily be fitted yourself (I did mine) and is around £400 from the US.
Twin turbo models only as far as I know.

I reccomend TCS in birchanger, essex, supplied installed and mapped my friend an Emerald K6 ECU for £950, awesome bit of kit, they're number is on 01279-816-370.
A grand for a remap? Mental. Are you sure that you are not actually Tom from TCS? You seem to recommend your 'friend' every other post! Did you only join this forum to advertise? Reported as spam.

Great feedback, thanks.
Another concern was putting that extra power through the box, drive train etc etc. I can't help but think there would be to many stresses resulting in a possible failure after a few thousand miles??
Ive been studying evolves website but they don't really seem to mention any of those issues. Only downside changing from an M will be the lack of exhaust rasp which I love!

Good spot 'clabcon' !!
Thanks. I have not used this company, but have heard good things about them:http://www.thorneymotorsport.co.uk/tuning/bmw/3-se...
Is your engine the same one as in the 3er?

Hi Bmweerm3 ~ I have an Evolve map on mine; 10/10. Another concern was putting that extra power through the box, drive train etc etc. I can't help but think there would be to many stresses resulting in a possible failure after a few thousand miles??

. You might have found this site already. http://www.n54tech.com/forums/ it contains good info, albeit very US orientated. Regarding the additional stresses placed on the drivetrain, I'm sure you'll be fine. There are hundreds of modified N54 engines about with either maps or piggy back ECUs, they usually run in the high 300s HP and over 400 lb/ft of torque with no apparent issues for their manual or auto transmissions. The 335i manual box is engineered to cope with the torque that a 330D can produce and a remapped 335i only produces similar torque to a standard 330d. I've not heard about any transmission issues on remapped 330d's either and they are over 500 lb/ft
. REALOEM shows that the 335i & 135i use the same GS6-53BZ/DZ gearbox as the 330d so, happy days There are plenty of 335is in the states which have to endure serious 1/4 mile abuse i.e. extra sticky drag rubber, meths and NOS injection; 500hp is not uncommon and they appear to cope too.
A decent torque biasing LSD will help put the extra power down in the wet; I'm sure Winter will be hard work without one because the standard setup only just copes on good surfaces in the dry

No thats a full ecu, install and map, no im not Tom my name is Ben but Tom is a good friend of mine and whenever i come across someone looking for things like this i float his name in as he has done me favours in past, but if it bothers you that much about me reccomending a good service i wont post it in here.
JB4 is one of the best tuning mods for a N54 twin turbo 135i. All the US forums love the JB products. The link below shows what it can do, but they are always updating things which is a added benefit of the JB4. They are currently working on installing launch control I read. I would go for a JB4 tune over a remap any day. http://www.burgertuning.com/jb4_pnp_BMW_performanc...

The 335i dyno graph in that link looks extremely familiar. essexgt4 said:

There are so many electronic devices within modern beemers that all communicate with each other in real time, you would have to be mental to strip the original ECU out and replace it with an Emerald.Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
