Morning all,

In a recent check to find the cause of a mis-fire the diagnostics have shown that glow plugs 2, 5 and 6 are faulty.

The garage I bought the car from will replace these under warranty along with the glow plug control unit which is very nice of them.

The question I have is that the fuel economy at the moment is shocking, very low 30's for typical mixed motorway / town driving.

Would these plugs being faulty affect the economy much?

David.

Simple answer, NO.

Most likely cause is a jammed open thermostat (either EGR or main stat) imo

(does the dash gauge show the engine warming up correctly and holding that temp when moving??

If it is ok, then it's you're driving style thats the problem............. ;-)

If you've got a pre-LCI (2004-2007ish I think ) vintage car, then that MPG sounds about right for a 525d. They aren't very economical.

Great - no temp reading on the dash, but certainly no alerts.
