650i Conv quad tailpipe & remap
Discussion
Hi,
I'm looking to get myself a tasty 650i (2006/7) convertible in the next few weeks, but one of my priorities is to upgrade the exhaust to a quad tailpipe, and probably get an ECU remap at the same time
Has anyone had one of these fitted, any recommendations on exhaust models available, anyone decent to fit it, important given the rear bumper chopping. (south west ideally but further afield also possible)
Also can anyone recommend a company to remap the ECU on BMW 4.8L V8, is it worth it? esp after you fit a better exhaust
Many thanks in advance

Hi
I can definitely give Profusion Customs here in Slough/Colnbrook a big recommendation. They are the official UK importer of Magnaflow exhausts and build exhausts to your specification. With the other high end brands and products, if you purchase them, you then end up with their 'sound' and each company and brand have certain aural characteristics. With Magnaflow, you can discuss prior to the work, what kind of sound you are after and it'll be done. If you really hate the sound afterwards, they will amend it for you as part of their customer service. To date, I don't think they've ever actually had to do that, but it's made clear they'll look after you in case of that happening. If you do call them, please speak to Raj and tell him I, Dennis with the E39 Ex police Touring, sent you ! take a look at their website for the extensive amounts of cars done, including 6 series examples
Another similar place is Hayward & Scott - they will also make up their own stainless steel exhausts and fit.
For re-mapping, I'd suggest looking at the higher end of specialists in this sector, plenty of recommendations here and good work by specialists who know what they're doing. Look at DMS, Evolve, B&W Chiptune, E-maps etc.
Cheers, Dennis!

Hi
I disagree with roofer comment on re-maps being a waste of time. It does depend on what you are after certainly, but a re-map on a NA petrol car isn't a waste of money at all. By re-mapping a petrol car, the benefits are smoother torque delivery, elimination of flat spots, optional marginal 300-500 rpm rev limiter rise. These changes would make the car 'feel' more responsive and smoother with the added bonus of probably 7-10 real bhp increase.
In this respect a re-map is very much worth it! just don't expect 20-30+ bhp alone by doing so!
Cheers, Dennis!

How about trying to source an M6 rear bumper? There's a young lad lives near me who had the full M6 treatment done to what I think is an old 645 cab, full M6 bodykit and quad exhaust - but it sounds absolutely dire, not sure what exhaust it is but the tips are almost identical in spacing and diameter to the proper M5/6 exhaust.
just thought i would put some pics of my 645ci convertible on here
i went to MIJ in Birmingham for the back boxes, oh and they dont sound dire one bit, well... they did the first time they fitted them, had to take it back and make them put bigger boxes on and now it sounds sweet as
was hard finding the right car in the first place, luckily i found one that the first owner got giddy with the optional extras and ticked them all, even got the dynamic drive pack hehehehe
car has cost me a fortune too, not as much as that guy but...
- genuine front and rear M6 bumpers
- M6 wheels with new tyres
- quad exhaust
- grooved and vented brakes all round (and some nice brembo covers off ebay for £25, and before you say anything i like them so... :P)
- lowering kit
- M6 badges
thinking about selling it too but not sure how much im willing to lose on it yet

I'm assuming that if you do decide to sell you'll be keeping the illegally spaced plates? i went to MIJ in Birmingham for the back boxes, oh and they dont sound dire one bit, well... they did the first time they fitted them, had to take it back and make them put bigger boxes on and now it sounds sweet as

because i wanted an M6 but cant afford the insurance on one nevermind being able to afford the car itself, this car is less than half the price, and the thing is no one i know has even seen a 645 let alone an M6 so who's going to know the differance, your only going to get a real egg head saying thats not a real M6!!
im just a moron i guess with a stupid looking fake car

Thanks for input everyone, really helpful as always on PH.
W ST3W - I might well be interested if you do decide to sell depending on price and pedigree of the underlying car - mileage, Fsh etc
Would have to remove the M badge(s) though. I see your point but my first cousin is Karl Elmitt, Head of exterior design, M-division. I couldn't do it to him

not sure if its for you bud, its only a 2004, has 65k on the clock with full history, has lots of toys with it tho, logic pro DVD TV SAT-NAV, active steering, adaptive lights, bluetooth phone, full dynamic drive pack and many more little gadgets and gizmo's
just has to be a good enough offer i guess or im keeping it

Although it's older than I had considered it is fully loaded, the quad exhaust is something I want and would have to shell out for on a 'stock'. Plus Im led to believe the 45 is possibly a better engine than the 50. Condition not age most important, will be putting an Ulster plate on it anyway.
If you put it on the market then give me a shout, if it's not for me then no harm no foul
Cheers

W ST3W the one I was referring to is not yours, this one is a white cab, the lad has gone the whole hog on having it look like an M6, even with the electric folding mirrors. Thats by the by though, the sound on this particular example is shocking, the first time it went past me I turned around looking to see chav'd up Focus.
