having recently sold one barge (My 540i/6 Touring) and replaced it with a E65 745i with an LPG conversion. Being a 7 of certain vintage i could be lucky but there is always the chance it could go belly up on me. Although it has very good history, has had all warranty work taken out and had most consumables replaced its only one big bill away from bankrupting me, this is a risk i took knowingly when buying.

To this end I've been researching warranties. Ive never had one before as ive never seen the point (as a disciple of bargain barge motoring). BMW want nearly 2k (that's 33% of the value of the car!!) Warranty wise wont cover me (over 100k) and Warranty Direct don't cover most of the electronics etc.

Anyone have any advice?

You'll find the cover offered will decrease as the mileage goes up, and if they've had enough big claims from a certain model then they may just refuse to insure it.

You're best bet is to put the money you would have spent on a warranty into an ISA and keep it for a rainy day.

Don't forget that you're not running a £6k 745i, but a £70k 745i, so everything for them will be expensive.

I think I've come to the same conclusion mate.i never thought i was going to get away with running it on the cheap and purchased it with my eyes fully wide open.im hoping all MW motorway miles and daily use will work in my favour.

I would spend my time finding a quality indie to take care of it rather than spend on a warranty that may or may not pay out cometh the day!

Do BMW (Mondial) even let you take out a warranty above 100k?

they do but from what i understand you cant have the comprehensive cover.

Got the Indie covered, he's worked on all my BMW's for the last few years. Ex BMW master tech, very reasonable too

Make sure it is up to date on recalls - brake boost controller and pipework was announced last year (2010).
