Do you mean this ugly beast??

If so why??!!!??!!!...the only reason I can think the two people in the car is smiling is because they are just glad they are sitting inside the car rather than looking at it from the outside...makes the Porsche Panamera look good!!

The 116i is a terrible, terrible car aimed at people who are desperate for a BMW badge.

Because the engine is so horribly stranged it isn't even more economical than the 118i. It's just bad.

Presumably that means that you're going for the now (not quite so ugly) old model, rather than the cross eyed hippo?
I'd imagine that as has already been pointed out, the 116 is a pretty soulless Ocean Finance spectacular and that you really ought to be looking at a 118d as a very bare minimum. Mind you, at your age, I'd be concentrating on saving up and getting the no claims bonus racked up in order to get something a little more interesting post 21.

If it gets you into the marque then fair play, its exactly what bmw wanted when they launched the 1 series.

I have always prefered a model slightly higher up the range, but with your age its difficult with insurance,so understand your challenges.

At least it gets you into RWD rather than super boring FWD so i say go for it.

Good luck with your decision.

It is a completely awful car. Buy a Focus or something, it'll be far better.

I've driven a few 116i's both pre and post facelift, they were terrible cars.

Never realised how bad looking this model is. Really it's shockingly ugly, actually it's a disrespect to nearly all BMW designs of the past.

It is terribly ugly, but its meant to drive so much better than the old one!

I have never driven a 1 series, are they as poor as everyone makes out?

I have never been against the 1 series, but people are quick to slate it & having no first hand experience i am in a difficult place to judge.

I wish you all the best with your decision & hope it treats you well if you get one.

They are well made & better than a focus imho & i am a ford fan through & through.
