When I turn the car on the Service indicator flashes up 08/2011 and 6000mls. Does this mean it should go to the dealer now or in 6k miles? There are no other warnings when I set off.

Car was last in the dealers for an oil service in July.

I have service inclusive only until end Dec so would be beneficial if I got the service now for free.

the number shown is miles to next service, so unless it has a - infront you are OK.
The date might relate to a time based service such as a brake fluid swap or coolant change which is irrespective of miles travelled.

Thanks, it needs a microfilter only apparently.

Turns out it is the earlier of the date or the mileage. No red service warning coming up though.

So despite the car only being serviced in July it needs another "Vehicle Check" and microfilter service.

I would be rather annoyed if I had to pay for another service. CBS is great in theory, not so good in practice.

CBS is all dependent on your driving style, length of journeys and many other factors, if you do plenty of miles and regular then you can almost guarantee about 18k miles between services. If you only do a few miles each journey and dont allow the oil and other components up get up to temperature then your service period will be cut drastically.

I too get a little peeved. The clock counts down on servicable items individually. Fortunatley my specialist is literally 200 yds from work.
