320d wastegate howl + EGR

Evening everyone
I have an E446 320d, when coming off boost I hear a howl as the boost is released. I thought it was normal but my mates 120d with the similar engine makes a much more refined sounding "hiss" which has got me thinking if theres a problem with mine.
It seems to be performing well but I know the EGR is in a state (tried to clean it but only got half off) so I'm considering fitting a bypass to remove the EGR completely. Anyone have any experience with this?
