Just wondering what wheels would suit the E34 well, Standard OEM look, new style wheels or retro wheels.

I'm just looking for something different than the regular 15" cross spoke BBS I have at the moment. I got very close to purchasing a set of 15" Hartge multispoke alloys for the car but the seller backed out at the last minute. I've been looking at the BBS RX, RS and RS wheels, as well as the RS040 17" split rims.

So in short what do you think would be the best wheel upgrade for my E34?

Thanks

Personally, I think that any wheel that was available at the time the car was manufactured. Dont be tempted to put a modern wheel on a car of that era!
Theres a cracking set of Style 5 cross spokes on ebay at about £600.00 but not sure if they'll fit your car

As above, a quality set of OE or tuner rims best suit the E34 shape - particularly if it's a standard car. It's a big old bus with 'big' and 'old' being the pertinent words.

You can't go far wrong with a set of Alpina rims. The multispoke design look great on them. Outside of that, Racing Dynamics do some real nice 5 spoke designs and BBS have some nice preiod rims, too.

I think they are the best looking factory wheel for an E34. But only available as 18". Don't ride as well as 17s, and if you don't have reasonable size discs can look a bit silly if you ask me.

My car had AZEV As on when I bought, period wheel and I thought looked good.

(not my car)

Or check this thread, plenty here.

Hi

In mid 1999, I bought myself a set of genuine AC Schnitzer type 3 in 18 inch sizing for my 95 525i Sport and it looked fantastic! I got lots of admiration for those wheels as they really set off the Cosmos Black paintwork.

Prior to that car, all my BMW's I've had I'd put on a much rarer set of wheels to distinguish me from the sea of other E30's, the E34 was no different and it's been the same ever since!

High end tuner's wheels have been my favoured choice in 95% of the choices I'd make for my cars. So as already mentioned, the Racing Dynamics wheels (if you can find any! wink ) Hartge's, MK Motorsports and of course the ever popular Alpina's would all look excellent. However for, me, it's got to be at least 18 inch for the E34 and 19's just look awesome! however I know 85% of BMW owners are 'oem only please' so the visual impact of great wheels like these is muted a bit with 16 or 17's.

A 'few' aftermarket styles and brands will work as well.

Cheers, Dennis!

Good shout on the ACS, type III also a favourite of mine.

Also agree with Alpinas.

18s do look good, but I think 19s are a step too far. And ride and handling on my M5 are definitely optimised on 17x8s all round.

100% agree, if I ever own an E34 it will definitely have M Parallels!

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your replies, I went with a set of Throwing stars in the end, as I was looking at RC090s but they are so damn expensive I just couldn't justify putting wheels that would cost nearly what I paid for the car.

Thanks anyway, and I'll post a pic or two when I receive and fit them.

Holy thread resurrection smile

Just bought myself another e34 touring on eBay. Not seen it yet, looks very tidy so hoping it works out. Anyway it's got some e60 wheels on it and they need to go. Love the ACS II and alpinas and they look great on something a little lower and stiffer but mine is a 525i se. Not sure they will work, has anyone got any picks of their e34 se on different wheels so I can review?

Alpina Classics (16 inch).

OE BBS cross spokes (16 inch).

Both will look decent and maintain the ride comfort.

A set of Style 16s will go down very nicely.

They're often overlooked (so relatively cheap) and suit the E34 down to the ground. The design makes them look bigger than a 16" so you get the appearance of a larger wheel with the comfort of a 16".

Not 100% on this, but didn't all the Alpina B10s come on 17"s? E30 was on 16"s

I love Throwing Stars (Ring-spec of course wink), but if I ever had to swap them I'd be tempted by a set of Racing Dynamics

E34's need to be mechanically perfect to get away with big wheels. Even a set of 17's will turn a previously decent E34 into a tramlining shed as it strains the tired old bushes and balljoints. The standard 15's are nice enough, but the 16 unch 5 spokes as fitted to the V8 cars were good too - a sensible size and very easy to keep nice. Throwing stars only look good on a Sport and I always thought the M Parallels looked like something out of Halfords.
