Have 4x run flats on my 335i all 12 months old. Got a puncture in front right. Am I asking for trouble in changing just the front 2 tyres for non run flats or just buy a new run flat and wait until all 4 need changing.

the two fronts on my 335i were worn out on the inside edges. Swapped the fronts for falken 452's leaving the RFT's on the back until the wear out (4-5mm left). The difference is night and day, the fronts grip, the backs just don't, well not as much.....I would just do as i have done, as long as you allow for it it shouldn't make too much of a difference, you don't drive at 100% on the road anyway.

Asking for trouble .....yes.

If you were to crash, there would be some massive questions marks upon an insurance inspector.

Mine confirmed that they were all infact non-rfts on my E46, so they obviously do look at something to do with rfts.

Ran 2 RFT's and 2 normal tyres on an E60 for ages and NO issues at all.

Not hard as the E46 was never fitted with them anyway. Standard rule of thumb is don't mix tyres on axles.

I know, he was just confirming, I assume he had it written on his checklist or something.

I think it would be fine tbh. On the weekend I noticed my mate's 330ci had one runflat on the driver's side. Rest were 'normal' tyres! It's been like that since a year ago.

i HAVE A ZED 4 AND WAS KEEN TO PUT {NORMAL} TYRES ON THE FRONT AS THE RFS WERE WORN BUT EVERONE I SPOKE TO INCLUDING TYRE DEALERS TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT MIX IN THAT WAY AND ALSO I WOULD BE ASKING FOR A SUICIDE EXPERIENCE.tHI DESPITE AN ARTICLE I READ IN THE BMW CAR CLUB MAGAZINE BY AN OWNER WHO HAD DONE THE SAME.i REPLACED THE FRONTS WITH RUNFLATS AS THER IS PLENTY OF TREAD ON THE REARS AND I COULDNT BRING MYSELF TO DITCH THEM.i HAVE FOUND A PLACE WHERE I CAN GET {AND HAVE GOT FITTED,PASSED MOT}PART WORN RFS VERY REASONABLE PRICED.

It's not recommend to mix run flats with non run flats, and should the unfortunate happen and you crash the car, it could cause an unwanted problem with the insurance company as they will push to say the mixed tyres were a major factor in any accident.

Considering the age of the other three tyres, I'd put another run flat on it and wait until all 4 need changing.

just to give an update as the car is in at BMW for its service and a new run flat.

They called and said they could not find a leak in the tyre, but I said to go ahead and change as pressure was going down.

10 mins later BMW call to say they have found a crack in the wheel. So new wheel required of they can safely reuse the old tyre they will but most likely replace it.

Bloody pot holes. I did run over some shakers a month ago and jeeze they rocked the boat. No doubt the pot holes will be getting worse as winter approaches until next spring. Ill see if my insurance will cover a new wheel. Ive asked for it to be kept.

Thankyou for the link.

Its actually the drivers front wheel. - I know the article is refering to rear wheels.

Ive spoken with my car insurance and confident both wheel and tyre will be replaced under insurance.
