Afternoon all,

I'm looking to 'upgrade' the look of my peashooter to a silencer with a twin exit, preferably OEM styling of the 325/330*

I'm not interested in visiting an exhaust manufacturer, largely due to the fact I'm not looking for a performance or sound gain, simply aesthetics. I'm concious of buying one on-line and it sounding 'bore' or 'raspy', OEM suits fine.

Herein lies the issue.

All models of the E46 with a twin exit exhaust, have a twin inlet and outlet (from the manifold, straight through the system). The 318 is a single pipe from the Cat back.

If I were to purchase a 323/325/330 silencer and cut the pipe between the cat and silencer, placing a Y connector, what impact will this have? Will the pressures be different, thus meaning the silencer sounds like a diesel?

I understand an early 323/325, 2000/2001 has a single inlet to outlet, as linked below, but this is £150 + the cost of OEM tips (£30), where I'd be better just visiting the exhaust manufacturer!

Thanks in advance

* Why didn't I just buy a 330? I bought the car off the company at a rock-bottom price, so decided to keep it for a couple of years, putting the savings towards a 535d

Well, I sat on my hands a little and picked up a second hand, mint condition example of the above exhaust for a mere £30 smile It comes with the chrome tips and mounting brackets, all in good condition once I spent 20 mins with autosol!

So the next question: The inlets to the backboxes are slightly different sizes. The existing 318 inlet is c. 8cm diameter and the new exhaust is c. 11cm - Would it be relatively easy for a garage to connect the two? The existing inlet pipe will need to be cut about midway between the cat and backbox, and replaced with the new one. No other fabrication should be needed as the backboxes are the same size and have the same mounting brackets.

Thanks
