Returning car after lease
Discussion
Due to me changing jobs and being able to walk to work I'm going to return my 650i at the end of next month under Voluntary Termination ie free to give it back after half the amount owed is paid back.
Anyway, does anyone have experience of handing a car back to BMW Finance? It's got fairly new tyres and has just been serviced but there are a few carpark scuffs on the bumpers and a light keying down driver's door. How likely are they to charge me for this or is it wear and tear?
Anything else I should be considering before returning it?
Any help appreciated!

This can partly depend on if it's a business or personal lease and the amount of time and miles it is over. Ask your lease co. for a copy of the BVRLA guidelines. I think you'll find that the keying is not acceptable if the scratch is longer than about 5cm and also the scuffs the same. There are guides on wheel scuffs too.
In the past couple of years lease companies have been more stringent on the state of returned cars.
Mattviatura is probably the best PHer to contact with advise on this.

Hi there,
I've not long returned mine.
Your service history has to be complete and as required by BMW.
MOT must be valid (if over three years old).
Insurance must be maintained until vehicle is handed over.
Car must be in a road worthy condition and suitable for collection (all lights working, tyres have something like 3mm+ tread, screen wash full, quarter of a tank of fuel, locking wheel nut + tool kit complete)
Condition wise I ended up taking mine to a body shop for some smart repairs prior to handing back, more to be a 100% sure there would be no come back on me (I was confident that the minor damage on the car was within BVRLA guidelines). Basically any parking dents, scuffs to paint or marks on alloys were repaired, I left minor stone chips. I would think the damage to the paint you've mentioned would be charged and they will not be cheaper than you could probably sort yourself.
The car then had a very good clean inside and out the day before hand over as you'd get charged if dirty.
You will have to pay a small charge for vehicle collection.
Excess mileage could be a big problem, they will send you a bill if you have exceeded (its then up to yourself if you wish to challange or pay up).
Hope thats some help.

If you contact BMW they will send you the vehicle check list that is really useful in working out what needs to be done to the car. It's produced by the British vehicle leasing association and I think most manufacturers use that now as their standard. I used it when I handed back my 645 and had no problems.
