Hi guys,
I've recently purchased an E39 530d Touring. The car came with no service history, but it has some ispection stickers from Sytner BMW indicating that at some point it has had a dealer service history. If I contact BMW would they be able to tell me what history the car has with the dealers?

There is a 0906 number that you can call, here is a link.

Maybe, but also worth ringing the dealer direct - you may find they waffle about Data Protection, though, which is a cop out. If possible, the best way is a personal visit with the car.

£1 a minute for that 0906 number!

How long is the average call? If they keep you on the phone at the start for 15 mins of automated waffle it would be a bit upsetting..

I used that number (0906 2990001) to check out a used car that I was interested in. They told me all of the dealer visits that the car had made for work, the options the car had when new and also the price it was sold for. From what I can remember I was charged just under £4 when I checked on my bill.

The options list was interesting as the advertiser had actually listed "some additional" options on the advert, when questioned stated that he had merely copied another advert and used that as a basis for his.

The dealer visits can give an indication of whether the car has had any previous issues (again, the car in question had some warranty work carried out on the injectors).

Worth the £4 in my opinion.

Thanks for the help guys. I noticed the £1 a minute charge too, though if its only £4 or £5 I guess its not that bad.
Thanks for the kind offer Aok, I'll go and dig out the V5 and send you a PM over smile

I used that number after buying a 530i with 86k miles on it and being suspicious as it felt tired, turns out BMW had seen it seen it 12 months previously and it had 160 something thousand miles on it then. Luckily I got my money back, but always use the history to verify mileage these days as these are so easy to clock.

Well worth the few quid imho.

Hi there.
I had a look... it had LOADS of dealer visits up till about 2006, and then nothing from then onwards. So i would say that if you have BMW stamps in the book up until 2006, these will be genuine services. (Was probably serviced at a non-BMW garage thereafter?)
Although I didn't go through them all, it appeared that one of the latest dealer visits included a paintshop element. I'd be fairly sure this was just something minor rather than a big prang repair... (after all, who would take a 5 year old BMW to a main dealer for a big bodywork job?)
That's about it from me! No mileage discrepancy, NMR check comes out clean, so does the HPI smile

Brilliant, thanks very much for that AOK.
I don't have a service book at all, but what you say pretty much confirms my gut feelings. Its deffinately missed one service (although the lights had been reset!) But otherwise it seems to have been well looked after. Its the second owner who has scrimped on it, but in the four years he had it, he only covered 15k
