E39 530i Manual Gearbox or clutch problem

Hi

I have quite an annoying problm with my 530i.

Its developed a clutch or gearbox problem where the car seems to be in some form of "safe mode"

Basically the car is only letting me engage gears at certain speeds so

1st 0 -15mph
2nd 15mph - 25mph
3rd 25mph-35mph
4th 35mph-45mph
5th 45mph-55mph

If i try and downshift for example from 3rd to 2nd at 30 mph it wont go into gear. It feels like your trying to put it into 2nd at say 100mph.

Any thoughts on what it could be?

I'd say engine or gearbox mounts, allowing it to move about and mess up the connections to the shifter.
