Winter tyre size and type

Evening,

I am just in the process of trying to sort out a winter wheel and tyre set up for my E61 535d. The smallest wheel I can go for is the 17" and these seem to come with a 225 50 17 tyre. When replacing these tyres with the winter rubber do I stick with the same size? The tyre I was looking at was the Vredstein Wintrac Xtreme as they seem to be highly rated. Does anyone have any experience of these tyres.
