about £150 a sensor. If they are not clicking when reverse is engaged then you can work out how many are broken.

It depends whats wrong and we can't help you from what you've written.

If you search the internet there's some checks you can do with the ignition in position 2 (iirc) and reverse gear engaged. You can check each individual sensor to see if it is working or not by putting your ear next to it to see if it makes a clicking noise.

Do you have a constant tone or no tone at all when reverse is engaged?

I've just spent £250 on getting my rear sensors sorted (E46 coupe) and they're still faulty. BMW just say they need to charge again for diagnosis and then charge for further repairs.

It's the last straw with my car so I'm not bothering and selling it instead.

I was first told it was a new sensor needed, I've had one replaced and the fault is still there. You could chuck a lot of money at this fault.

I've got a problem with the left rear sensor at the moment on my E46 330. I understand that these are bosch sensors and the BMW price was £81 per sensor.

I spent quite some time searching, but ordered a bosch replacement yesterday from central-auto.com for a shade under £30.

Hoping to get the sensor before the weekend and sort it out then.

UPDATE: I had a phone call a few days after placing the order with central-auto to say the part was discontinued and they offered to be me a dealer part for over £100. I declined the offer, but subsequently found that Land Rover Discovery parking sensors work with the E46 and are £42 each. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

www.realoem.com

That will give you the BMW part number. I spent ages searching for the Bosch equivalent, I'm pretty sure the part I ordered is correct, as the Bosch part number states it is for my car. Searching google.de is a good idea as lots more matches for the bosch part number on their.

Note if you look at the central auto site, the part number they list is the bosch part number.

You sure it's the sensors and not the control unit? If you stick the car in reverse you should be able to hear the sensors clicking, any that aren't are faulty, however if NONE are clicking I'd be inclined to look at the control unit. Not sure why BMW are struggling to resolve it though, they can see each sensor seperately when they plug the computer in so would take seconds to see if one or all sensors were faulty.

Apparently it's not the control unit but judging by the piss poor customer service I'm getting from BMW it wouldn't surprise me if it actually was.

Do your sensors fit into a 21 mm hole, and are they in some way intigrated into some in built system within the car ?

When I bought mine, it had two rear sensors, and they appeared to be retro-fitted, just a stand alone "beep" kit.

I replaced them with a four sensor, remote display (so I get beep and readout) for £22, from fleabay.

Have you checked the fuse?

I didn't even think to bother on mine, because I trusted the garage when they told me the parking sensor problem was proving very difficult and time-consuming to diagnose. But that was the problem. Cost me 50p (and another 50p for the heated rear view mirror fuse too).

(The fuse box is in the glove compartment in my car, I doubt they've moved it for newer models. There are two little latches at the top that you rotate, and it reveals itself. As I recall, there are plenty of equivalent non-essential fuses in the fuse box that you can temporarily borrow for testing purposes.)

k9my83 - I don't mean to be rude...but you still haven't told us what symptons are wrong with your car (no beeps at all, constant beeps etc.). You won't get much constructive help or find a cheap way to fix it if you refuse to give details of the problem.

And don't take it to BMW...find yourself a local BMW Independant (there's a thread at the top of this forum recommending local ones) and use them. You'll save a fair amount of £'s.

Is the park assist not working at all, front or rear? If so, all of your sensors are not going to have died en masse. Have you tried firing it up with the button on the centre console, rather than relying on it to activate with reverse?
