Whats wrong with these lights

I have an E36 coupe 98 and the nsr tail light and brake lights dont work. I have changed the bulbs but still nothing. This is where I become stuck. Can anyone give me any pointers.

Possibly bad earth for the lamp unit.

I think that E46's have problems with the rear light units, i know mine had one replaced about a year before i bought it, maybe to do with the wiring breaking but don't know about your model.

Check the fuses in the box under the bonnet, I had the same thing a while ago

Check there is no corrosion on the bulb contact tabs in the bulb holder and check that the tabs are actually contacting the bulb (I had to bend mine slightly towards the bulb to make a good contact).
