Upgrading existing BMW 7 series SatNav
Discussion
Hi,
I am trying to get hold of some new maps for the satnav in my fathers BMW 7 series. The problem is that he doesn't know what model he's got and I am miles away from him and can't check it out myself.
I am pretty sure his car is a 58 reg (he's put a private plate on it so i'm not 100% sure) and has the iDrive system. The existing system has only partial post code entry. I have checked the DVD box and it is labelled 2009-1 High.
So I guess I would like to know what is the most recent version I can upgrade to? Where do I get hold of these DVDs from and do they include full post code searches?
Cheers for the help

Stick the reg in http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk
Assuming a 730d, an F10 is 178g/km and an E65 is 210g/km.
58 is the changeover year so it could in theory be either and while someone who knows better than me will be along, I'd be concerned that the disc is just the disc software version, and tells you nothing about the unit that's in the car.

Hey DavidHM, I did as you advised and it turns out that it is 216g/km so I guess that makes it an E65. CheersAssuming a 730d, an F10 is 178g/km and an E65 is 210g/km.

A newer DVD will update the maps, but for a full software update it needs to go to the dealer. They tend not to like doing it unless there's a problem.
Cheers Zod, if I am just looking to update the maps where should I be looking and what is the most recent update? I notice that some of the DVDs are labelled 'high' and 'pro' or something like that; can the system take either? When I am wanting to check compatibility I just need to know the car is an E65? anything else?G.
A bit off topic because I have a 2007 E61, but do later BMW nav systems do full postcodes? and if so is it a hardware change to update (I have Professional nav)?
I do find the partial code system irritating, but not as irritating as the one in our Nissan that doesn't do postcodes at all!

My 2005 E61 won't take postcodes at all. !!! I do find the partial code system irritating, but not as irritating as the one in our Nissan that doesn't do postcodes at all!
