Evening all

I have a problem with my 535d which has only happened twice in the last 2 months.

A couple days ago I used the car for a journey to north London. Got home late afternoon and lazed about for the rest of the evening. I had to pop out 4/5 hours later and went to pull away and there was no power low down till roughly 3.5k and the big turbo throws you down the road. The first time it did it a month or so ago, it cleared after a couple of minutes and all was well. Same sort of circumstances as this time round too.

I've had a butchers on google about 535d small turbo issues and thought I'd check all the small actuator and boost hoses under the engine cover as they're prone to split, and there was one which was completely severed, but the car at the moment is running fine so it obviously isn't the problem. I will change the broken hose and all the rest of them while I'm there but need to sort this out first

Has anyone else heard of such problems? Maybe suffered from this yourselves?

Any feedback much appreciated

Cheers

A friend of mine had to have the small turbo replaced due to failure.

Its definately a hose or the actuator. I had this 3 times on my 335, hoses usually went in the foil sandwich atop the turbo. In the end, i changed the lot and re routed most. The one that goes across the front of the engine gives the most agg.

Even if its intermittent, it can still be a hose, vacuum causes them to suck the split closed. I did have to replace an actuator once though.

Thanks for your feedback lads.

Out if curiosity, which actuator did you have to change and what sort of cost?

Any fault codes?
I would expect to see a boost control deviation code if there was a turbo problem.

There's a change it might even be the tuning hasn't made much of a difference at lower engine speeds, and the top end is more impressive which makes it feel unbalanced.

OK, the glow plugs shouldn't affect it.

Seeing as is worked before OK, it does seem that something physical has changed.
The DPF is still fitted as normal? That's quite high power to still have the DPF on.
Sometimes when the DPF is deleted, a lot of other fault codes are knocked out as well, meaning it is hard to find an issue if the code won't show up.

It does sound turbo related, but all of the obvious bits (vac lines, the control solenoid and reservoir) have been checked.

I had this on my 54 reg 535d years ago - it was a perished vacuum hose.

Don’t forget the vacuum pipes and oil supply to the turbos. The solenoids are a common fault too
