Helping a mate with his BMW E46 M3 PDC system (rear only)- just helping him fault find as all he gets is a constant tone...
a) 4 x Parking Sensors
b) Wiring from Sensors to PDC ECU
c) PDC ECU
d) Wiring from PDC ECU to the sound generator (gong)
e) Sound generator unit (gong)
f) Reverse switch + fuse + power supply
If all this has been changed and is know to be working (from a donar car), there are no fault codes and the system still doesn't work (constant tone) - what else could it be?
Does the PDC ECU interact with something else in the car (e.g. main BMW ECU)?
Also would it possible to run the PDC system outside the car in a standalone way ?
(PS On the weekend I'm going to test my mates car re points d + e as that's the only things left to swap out!)
We've both become entirely fixated on finding a solution to a strange problem which seems to plague lots of BMWs - I reckon with the collective intelligence of the people on here (far superior to mine!) that we can crack this!!!

I believe the systems the same as the e39, for which there's a click test? You should be able to listen closely at each sensor & hear a rapid tick-tick-tick sound, which is good. If you're not getting from one, it's not working; nothing from any & the chances are it's a fault with the system somewhere.

these things are a pain in the ass! mine has random beeping fits and I can see in the cars service history that a previous owner spent around £300 at the stealers trying to cure it!
I've got a feeling it's going to be something unresolvable as the entire PDC system has been changed - the only thing left is to test the K-Bus as that's the only other interaction point of the PDC system?Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
