Hi All,
I have had several BMW’s and the steering wheels have on balance been nice. However, the E63 one is rock hard and very uncomfortable to hold over a long distance, My E38 735 and 740 were lovely, as is my wife’s E46 330 sport, The E63 one is rock hard and just uncomfortable.

My local BM dealer kindly offered a new 6 series, while my (2005) 650 was in for some warranty work. The steering wheel was lovely in the new 6 series.

Cue me doing a little digging! I found a bloke via a Pistonhead recommendation who recovers steering wheel’s for BM’s, Porsche’s etc. I asked for my wheel to be recovered in nappa leather and some sponge to be added! What a transformation!.
On booking in my car, Jack was knowledgeable, careful and knew his stuff (there was a change over in steering wheels the month before mine was manufactured, and he knew this in advance)!
Steering wheel is now as it should have been when it left the factory, i.e. comfortable to hold over long distances. Quality of workmanship is the equal of the original, probably better.
I am happy to upload pictures if anyone is interested. Work was completed by Royal Steering Wheels (http://royalsteeringwheels.com/) who are no connection to me, I am just a happy customer.

Why is it that these: "I've had this done to My car!" threads never seem to include any idea of the cost involved?

Yes the cost will vary from vehicle to vehicle, but most owners would like to know roughly how much was paid, along with the stated quality of the work and how long it took to do.

My E36 M3 wheel came to £115 (exchange) from Jack. My spec was Nappa leather, perforated leather sides and padding to make the wheel thicker.

Jack did the wheel on my E46 330Ci too. The difference is incredible and the stitching / materials are fantastic. The price was £120ish if I recall correctly and as I was local I collected & Jack fitted the new wheel - great guy.

Hi All,
Steering was covered in plain nappa, with added padding and the stitching was in 3 colours to match the Msport wheel. Cost was ~£130. As I pass by Jack's place on the way to work, I dropped in. Jack removed the steering wheel and replaced it with a loan steering wheel that was the same, so all steering wheel buttons worked and my airbag was refitted to the loan wheel.
Due to work commitments it was about 3 weeks later when I was able to pop back to get my wheel fitted. On both occasions, Jack worked to my times. He took great care when fitting and torqued up everything.
I will post up a pic over the weekend when I get home.

Wonder if any of the 3 sizes of Disklock would work on these?
