Got a call from the wife this morning on her way to work to tell me that all the clocks had stopped working on her E39. No speedo, fuel, temp, rev counter and mileometer or obc are working. Any ideas?.

And various other weird electrical gremlins - mine took out the radio and windscreen wipers which was annoying because when you're sat in a layby waiting for the rain to stop, its nice to listen to some music hehe

Ok cheers. Will give it a try. This is the first problem in over a year of ownership. Brilliant cars.

I followed this:

Other than the top T30 being a bit of a struggle to get to it's easy enough.

Wow thread Resurrection! I got in my E39 this morning and had exactly this problem - no gauges, OBC, or odometer. Didn't try the radio, but lights, panel lights, warning lights, indicators and wipers all worked - just dead clocks.

OP, was this the ignition switch in the end? I will try a battery disconnect and reconnect when I get home in case it was just having a funny 5 minutes. Luckily I had the E34 to take to work!

Good afternoon Gentlemen.
I am an owner of E39 528i.

This morning on the way to my job, dash board turned off, radio stopped, no ac working like the same symptoms that the gentleman just mentioned above.

But I have a concern that recently it rained a lot and there was leaking on the ceiling of my car so I have a lot of water in the right side of back seat on the floor. The water is still there making a sound of waves while driving.

I don’t know if that water affected any changes on dash board or ignition switch or that’s just because ignition switch old and has to be changed.
Does anyone know?

The water is certainly not a good thing, but, unless it somehow reached the switch, it won't have affected that. The water in the back is likely to be the vapour seal behind the door card, or the sunroof drains, if you have one.
